Often when we are meeting with parents in Illinois that have suffered a birth injury or an injury to their child when they were born, they will ask us, “How long is this all going to take?” Birth injury cases are very complex, and they can go on for a number of years. More importantly, sometimes it’s necessary to allow for the full development of the child, in other words, to get a full picture of what the lifetime needs of the child are going to be into the future. It is not uncommon for a birth injury case to last two, three years at a time because it takes that long to investigate the medical side of all the things that may or may not have taken place at the time the baby was born, but at the same time investigate what the needs are going to be all the way into the future as the child grows up.
